TY260 PBU Packing
Available in AVA31, AVA45, AVA47, & AVA5015
The AVA-PBU pressure balanced unitized design is the latest concept in
shaft seals The AVA-PBU was developed to extend packing life in
conventional applications. However, it has found use in all services
from non-lube air to 50,000 PSI compressors handling polyethylene. Each
ring operates on the principle of balancing the pressures around the
seal to minimize the downward force on the piston rod. Frictional forces
are reduced considerably. In applications where filled Teflon materials
are utilized, there is less chance that the PV limit
(temperature/pressure limit) of the Teflon will be exceeded because of
reduced frictional heat.

TYPE 220 Packing Ring
Available in AVA31, AVA45, AVA47, with backups of the same Teflon blends
or bronze or cast iron.
This style of packing ring is used in higher pressure applications where
the seal ring is made from a thermoscopic material, including filed
Teflon's. At these pressure ranges a backup ring is required to support
the sealing ring at the bore to prevent extrusion. The packing groove is
not wide enough to utilize the type 210 pair of rings with a backup.
Therefore one ring replaces the normal pair and serves as a radial and
tangent combined.

Type 210 Packing Ring
Available in Bronze, Cast Iron AVA31,
A/A45, AVA47 & AVA5015
Single acting radial-tangent pairs consist of a radial load ring and a
tangent sealing
ring. The pair act together as a seal in one direction The Type 210 are
installed in combinations depending on the discharge pressure They keep
the gas from leaking from the cylinder to atmosphere The radial ring is
pinned to the tangent or sealing ring to prevent gas from leaking at the
tangent joint. The pair of rings seal at the bore and against the back
side. To obtain an
effective seal the finish and parallelism of the faces are critical.
Proper side clearance is required for the packing to function at
operating temperatures and not be restricted in the packing case groove.

TYPE 211 Packing Ring
Available in AVA31, AVA45, AVA AVA5015 Bronze, & Iron
The Type 211 pair of packing rings consist of two tangent to the step
rings pinned together to overlap at the step This design has
traditionally been used to seal low pressure or vacuum applications The
pair of tangent rings allows the 211 style to seal in both directions.
Because the large sealing surface, more frictional heat is generated and
therefore greater wear to the piston rod and the seal itself. The 211
design does not allow gas to pass back through the packing case when
pressure drops from discharge to suction in the cylinder, therefore its
application should be limited to low pressures such as after the vent
connection, vacuum service or in partition packing's.

Type 255-6 Packing Case
The 255 style packing case is designed for oil pressure ranges in both
lubricated and non lubricated service. All sealing surfaces are
precision ground. The rods align the individual cups to ensure proper function of lubrication, vent and purge
systems. Close tolerances are held on all components to increase packing
ring life. The highest quality materials are used throughout to extend
the life of the assembly and allow for reconditioning without limiting
performance.

Type 255-W7 Packing Case
The 255 W series of packing cases incorporated oil wiper rings in the
pressure packing assembly itself. The design is normally utilized in gas
compressors where space is limited. Large drain holes are added in the
wiper area to ensure oil removal from the rod surface. Precision
machining allows the packing assembly to seal effectively for extended
hours at high discharge pressures.

Type 65 Inside Solid Packing Case
The Inside Solid design is used where the case flange is part of the
compressor and not supplied with the packing case. Normally the Type 65
assembly replaces a braided or soft packing. You can utilize this design
to upgrade your reciprocating compressors or pumps to mechanical packing
where you may presently be utilizing a soft packing style of seal. The
case will work with the existing flange and greatly extend packing life
while eliminating rod wear.
Standard replacement cases are available for all types of compressor
models.

Type 655 Water Cooled Case
The Type 655 series water cooled case because of its unique design
brings a high cooling flow rate to the sealing surface Heat transfer is
directly enhanced by the amount of surface area exposed and the reduced
distance between the heat source and the cooling. Special features such
as internal O-ring seals around the water chambers and encased O-rings
seals between each cup prevent any leakage of gas into the water cooling
passages. Each water cooled cup is fitted with access plugs to flush out
the internal water surfaces where scale may build up. This scale buildup
can reduce heat transfer and restrict coolant flow during the life of
the packing case. |
